The discoveries that artist Arnaud D'Aunay made on board the Toum Tiou are beautifully described in his travelogue Up the Mekong from Saigon to Angkor, published by Editions Gallimard. Although we had done the trip many times before, we rediscovered it ourselves. All the details, all our impressions were transcended by the romance of the watercolorist's brush. We couldn't have asked for a better source of illustrations for this site, and this book is a must take-along for your trip or for purchase as a first-rate souvenir.

Another source that we regularly consulted in building this site is the Petit Fute (available only in French) which is virtually indispensable on any journey through Cambodia's hinterland. It is unique in its treatment of the subject, making it a point to highlight the hidden and sometimes unlikely beauty spots of the Kingdom. Nothing is taboo and, with sometimes caustic humor, it discusses the good things as well as the bad in the country with which the author, Pierre-Yves Clais fell deeply in love. Whether you're traveling overland or by water, the Petit Fute is a must for any traveler in quest of the Cambodian dream.
