In these lands of legend closely linked to modern history, a wonderful journey can be made up the Mekong River, to the source of its memory. Descending from the prodigious heights of the Himalayas, this 4000-kilometer long river flows through six countries before depositing its rich alluvial silt in Vietnam, where its delta spreads out in a giant goose-foot pattern.
